Kyushu & Gifu
In November 2024, we visited Japan with a thought at the back of our in minds - the possibility of starting a small business. As usual, we indulged ourselves and  visited places that most people think of when they hear 'Japan' - bustling cities, neon lights and of course good food. But we also had another purpose - to see the 'not so usual' - rural cities, everyday lives of locals and off the beaten paths.

The tranquil ambiance provided the perfect backdrop for introspection. The natural beauty, lush landscapes and serene temples, invited us to pause and reflect. We spent time wandering through peaceful gardens, taking in the sights and sounds of nature, and finding solace in the solitude.

“Sometimes I think about how lucky it is that I enjoy the wind. When the evening breeze blows, I thank it for clearing up the stuffiness in me and letting me breathe easier.”

This experience reaffirmed our belief in the value of slow living—a lifestyle that embraces mindfulness, simplicity, and a deep connection to one’s surroundings. The pottery, the tea rituals, and the serene environment all contributed to a profound sense of calm and clarity.

We walked through the most peaceful paths that felt like our souls were healed, our minds emptied of worries.

The city’s dedication to preserving traditional crafts and rituals provided us with valuable insights into the art of living mindfully.

As we returned home, we carried with us the lessons learned. The importance of creating space for quiet reflection, the joy of appreciating handcrafted beauty, and the serenity found in simple rituals became guiding principles in our everyday lives. We now approach each day with a renewed sense of purpose, embracing the slow pace that allows us to fully appreciate the richness of our experiences.
